Published paper: Automated near real-time monitoring in ecology
A timely review paper on automated near real-time monitoring in ecology funded by the Nature FIRST project has just been published in Ecological Informatics. When working with fast-paced change - such as human-wildlife conflict, poaching, migration and wildfires - it is important that our monitoring can keep pace to be able to inform timely decision-making. This paper discusses the current practice and technologies relevant for working in near real-time, highlighting barriers and opportunities for further development. The topics discussed are highly pertinent to the digital twinning work which is a core component of the Nature FIRST project, and emphasises the need to develop and test models such as the Crane Radar and the Human-Bear Conflict Radar to further the field.
